Spotlight: San Diego EcosySTEM

Kudos to San Diego EcosySTEM partner, Fleet Science Center, for a successful first year of their latest initiative, “52 Weeks of Science.” 52 Weeks of Science, a yearlong celebration of STEM, brings fun and exciting science-based activities and opportunities to residents in Barrio Logan and Logan Heights. Nearly 60 science, cultural, educational and community partners contribute to these events—a number that has doubled since the initiative’s inception in October 2015. In just one year, events have drawn more than 4,000 participants, including students across all grade levels. The initiative aims to deepen the community’s affinity for science extracurricular activities and increase residents’ interest in science as a part of their daily lives. Due to its success, 52 Weeks of Science has become a leading force in creating an infrastructure for community partners to collaborate quickly on new opportunities, such as grants.
