About

What is STEM-NM?

STEM-NM is New Mexico’s nationally-designated STEM Learning Ecosystem. We are a cross-sector collaborative network that brings together businesses, non-profits, professionals, and educators in science, technology, engineering, art, and math to create exciting STEAM learning opportunities across the state.

In New Mexico, STEAM is thriving, but the pathways can feel disconnected at times. There are countless untapped opportunities for students, businesses, and industries to grow and thrive; if we put our heads together, we can connect the dots. STEM-NM is where cross-sector leaders, from educators and business owners to nonprofits and STEAM professionals, come together to advance opportunities in New Mexico. Together, we analyze, plan, take action, and support joint efforts that strengthen STEAM opportunities for local people and companies here at home. We don’t have to work in silos. We can take on big challenges and even bigger opportunities together, keeping and developing local talent and fostering a thriving, cutting-edge STEAM economy.

Our Approach

Think of us like a megaphone. We promote and amplify the messages of the educators, businesses, tech startups, higher ed, and K-12 programs that are working to excite students about STEAM and open new inroads to STEAM careers. Our approach can be broken down into four categories:

  • Data, Impact, Collaboration
  • Diverse stakeholders
  • Experiences that change the narrative
  • National recognition

With those categories in mind, we implement the following key programs:

  • New Mexico Science Fiesta
  • STEAM Council
  • All STEM-NM working groups

Why be a part of a STEM Ecosystem?

It’s simple: a strong STEM ecosystem benefits everyone. We believe that a collaborative effort can have an exponential effect. When people are able to pursue opportunities in STEAM, they’re more likely to stay in their community, the economy thrives, and the overall quality of life improves.

There are lots of ways to get involved with the STEM-NM Ecosystem. Some of the benefits included in being a part of the ecosystem are:

  • Access to a wide network of STEAM organizations, businesses, and professionals
  • Professional development and leadership opportunities
  • Connections the the national STEM Ecosystem and their resources
  • Invitation to meetings, webinars, and special events
  • Cross promotion across all STEM-NM Ecosystem platforms
  • Access to the STEM-NM Ecosystem staff for support and connections
  • No fees or mandatory time commitments
