STEM Allies Uganda Ecosystem
Uganda

About
STEM Allies Uganda Ecosystem is a nationwide coalition dedicated to advancing equitable STEM education. Established in 2020 and housed within the Green Companion Initiative Uganda, the coalition serves communities across Uganda, with a particular focus on underserved rural and urban areas. Supported by the Ministry of Education and Sports, STEM Allies Uganda Ecosystem unites over 500 individuals, 15 community-based organizations, NGOs, teachers, and advocacy groups to foster innovation, inclusivity, and sustainable learning.
Our mission stems from research showing that between 2019 and today, 70% of jobs lost disproportionately impacted women. Recognizing that equitable STEM education can drive economic empowerment, we work to address barriers such as outdated teaching methodologies, gender disparities, and resource shortages.
Through strategic partnerships and advocacy, STEM Allies Uganda Ecosystem is committed to shaping a future where all learners—regardless of gender or background—have the skills to excel in STEM fields and contribute to Uganda’s sustainable development.
VISION
Our vision is a Uganda where STEM education is accessible, inclusive, and innovative, enabling all learners to achieve their full potential and drive sustainable development. We strive to bridge the gender gap in STEM, cultivate a culture of scientific curiosity, and equip young people with 21st-century skills for global competitiveness.
GOALS
- Empower teachers as STEM leaders by training 200 educators annually in modern STEM methodologies, digital literacy, and gender-responsive teaching.
- Promote gender equity in STEM education by eradicating period poverty and providing scholarships for underserved girls.
- Expand access to STEM resources by equipping 100 schools with science equipment, computers, and mobile STEM labs by 2030.
- Integrate environmental sustainability into STEM curricula through eco-projects and green innovation programs.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES
STEM Allies Uganda, a coalition of organizations committed to advancing STEM education and workforce development, adopts a collaborative and holistic approach to developing future-ready skills. Our ecosystem focuses on creating pathways that empower individuals, particularly those from underserved and underrepresented communities, to acquire the skills necessary for success in the evolving job market.
We engage with a broad range of members, including educational institutions, industry leaders, and community organizations, to design and implement innovative STEM programs. These programs are tailored to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity, while also integrating practical skills that are directly relevant to workforce needs. Our initiatives include afterschool programs, mentorship, internships, and hands-on STEM training that help individuals build technical expertise and soft skills like leadership, communication, and teamwork.
A key aspect of our approach is ensuring that both youth and adults have access to opportunities that prepare them for future careers. We work closely with partners like the Green Companion Initiative and Amal Al Yateem Orphanage to reach underserved populations and provide targeted support in fields such as environmental conservation, technology, and engineering.
Through strategic partnerships with local and international organizations, STEM Allies Uganda Ecosystem also facilitates workforce development by creating connections between educators and industry experts, offering career development opportunities, and organizing skill-building workshops. By aligning STEM education with real-world challenges and industry needs, we are building a resilient workforce capable of contributing to sustainable economic development and addressing the challenges of tomorrow.
