About

The STEM Alliance of North Alabama (SANA) is a STEM Learning Ecosystem focused on connecting STEM education stakeholders across a 5 county region in North Alabama. SANA was established in 2024 as part of the Alabama STEM Council STEM Ecosystems initiative. Our mission is to build partnerships that promote collaboration, increase awareness, and advocate for opportunities in STEM education and workforce development by providing innovative learning experiences and career pathways across North Alabama and beyond.

VISION
To grow a unified STEM network where collaboration and shared learning bridge gaps and create transformative opportunities that improve lives, uplift communities, and unlock the potential within every individual.

GOALS

  1. Implement and maintain a communication platform for ecosystem members
  2. Measure STEM workforce needs and disseminate findings
  3. Grow ecosystem membership
  4. Implement and maintain a resource and calendar sharing platform
  5. Provide professional development opportunities related to STEM education

Key Programs

Community Served: The STEM Alliance of North Alabama serves a five county region in northern Alabama including Madison, Marshall, Jackson, Limestone, and Morgan counties.

Learners Served: 55,000 learners; early childhood, elementary, middle school, high school, post-secondary, and adult learners.

Types of Learner Programs: Curriculum, In-school programs, Afterschool programs, Summer school programs, Internships, Work-based learning programs, Career & Technical Education (CTE), Pre-College STEM programs, Stackable Credentials, Technical Training & Certification, Workforce skills & development, Apprentice programs, Degree programs, Coaching and Mentoring programs.

Types of Educator Programs: 3,300 educators; Professional Development, Training, Online courses, Resources (equipment, kits, etc.), Virtual Learning Communities, Curriculum Support and Resources, Coaching or Mentoring Programs, Externships, Industry-Education Partnerships, Research Experiences, Conference/Networking Opportunities, Technology Integration Support.

KEY INITIATIVES
Facilitate partnership communication and sharing. Early work of the STEM Alliance of North Alabama is focused on building and deepening relationships between STEM education constituents in our region. We provide platforms for discussion, resource sharing, and calendaring. We provide networking and professional development opportunities.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT FOCUS
The STEM Alliance of North Alabama has a strong set of initial industry partners and continues to grow its network. Measuring and disseminating workforce needs data among partners will help inform STEM education programs throughout our region. Stronger connections between regional STEM industries and STEM education providers lead to better alignment between educational programming and the development of workforce-ready skills.
