About
The Flagstaff STEM Learning Ecosystem is the educational arm of STEM City. True to our mission, STEM City connects and collaborates with Flagstaff’s entire STEM community to promote, strengthen and sustain STEM organizations, literacy and initiatives. We lead the “STEM Connects” program, linking STEM professionals with K-12 students, including through the Scientists in the Classroom initiative. We actively collaborate in partner-led STEM initiatives, promoting and leading new initiatives when opportunities arise. We engage with schools and out-of-school time partners to facilitate curricular STEM connections. We promote existing and new STEM programming to drive engagement and impact; evaluate select STEM programming to identify “best in class” programs to incorporate and expand into future programming with our partner organizations. We partner in public STEM events and work to reimagine current events and conceptualize future events with the goal of ensuring sustainability, continued community engagement and measurable impact.
Key Programs
STEM Connects
We connect any requesting school (district, charter and private) or teacher with STEM professionals through our large network.
Scientists in the Classroom
STEM City matches individuals (for one-on-one student mentorship) and groups (for monthly classroom engagement activities and presentations) for an entire school year. Both mentorship models (one-on-one and classroom) have a capstone celebration at the end of the school year.
Community STEM Resources
STEM City has bioscience, engineering, and environmental science kits to loan out to schools, teachers, home school parents, after school clubs, etc. on a first come, first serve basis.
Flagstaff Community STEM Celebration
Annual event in the NAU Skydome for all 28 schools (district, charter and private), as well as over 60 community partners (above list only mentions some of them) to showcase STEM. All schools and groups have interactive STEM engagement activities for family fun.
Flagstaff STEM Awards – aka the “STEMmies”
Annual event highlighting a STEM Teacher of the Year, STEM Students of the Year, STEM Community Partner of the Year, and STEM Business of the Year.
