Our regional COVA STEM Hub learning ecosystem comprises 19 local municipalities in Coastal Virginia. We embrace a ‘Pre-K to Gray learning’ or more philosophy toward STEM engagement. Our incubator and now anchor site for this Coastal Virginia regional effort is Brooks Crossing Innovation + Opportunity Center in Newport News, VA. This Innovation + Opportunity Center was the first of its kind, in the nation, that involved a municipality (Newport News), and higher educational partner (Old Dominion University) and 2 the largest industrial employer in VA and largest shipbuilding company in the United States (Huntington Ingalls Industry – Newport News Shipbuilding). Our industry focus embraces a deep cross-sector of unique partnerships incorporating but not limited to: Aerospace + Aviation, Offshore Wind + Energy, Maritime: Shipbuilding + Repair, transportation + logistics, information technology, military bases and their contracting partners, advanced manufacturing, Healthcare + Life and Biomedical sciences. Coastal VA is an epicenter of DOD activity with 16 bases from all branches of the military. This region encompasses the largest concentration of US Naval forces in the world.
